Preliminary Hearing Hosted for Suspect in May Murder Case

It was announced by the Emery County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) on Sept. 6 that 37-year-old Brandon Samples had charges filed against him in regard to his alleged involvement in the murder of William Randy Jones.

Jones was discovered on May 2 when the ECSO received a report of a body. The investigation led to Samples as the primary suspect. Samples, who is on parole on an unrelated matter, was taken into custody shortly after the incident and placed in custody in the Utah State Prison while the investigation was ongoing. Initially, Samples was charged with murder, three counts of obstructing justice and abuse of desecration of a human body.

Recently, Samples preliminary hearing was hosted. According to Emery County Attorney Michael Olsen, Samples was bound over to the Seventh District Court and the case has been set for arraignment. The arraignment is slated to take place on Dec. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
