PCPD Press Release

On Dec. 7, Price City Police Officer Shawn Sackett took an attempted vehicle theft report from a Carbon County resident. The white Dodge Charger had been parked at a local Price business in the southeast district for a week and a half. The owner checked on the vehicle and discovered it had been attacked and sustained major damage (allegedly in excess of $6,000) during the attempted theft. Officer Sackett recovered a number of evidentiary items and developed a lead focusing on a person of interest in the crime.

On Dec. 11, the suspect in the case, James E. Erskin, DOB 6-24-76, of Price, was located at another nearby business by officer Tyler Cressall. Erskin was arrested immediately because he had an active no bail statewide warrant for felony theft (as well as other drug charges) from the 4th District Court. Erskin was allegedly found to be in possession of a personal use amount of methamphetamine and burglary tools.

Erskin was subsequently interviewed by Det. Sgt. Brandon Sicilia and was allegedly cooperative during that lengthy interview.

Erskin was booked into the Carbon County Jail on felony level charges of attempted vehicle theft and criminal mischief damage as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of burglary tools, possession of methamphetamine and heroin, and criminal trespass. The Carbon County Attorney’s Office will review officer reports to determine the appropriate formal charges to file.

Erskin recently successfully completed his parole term in March of 2017. According to court records, he has 19 previous arrests including 10 felony convictions. His offenses include drug offenses, DUI, aggravated assault, domestic assault, unlawful detention, vehicle theft and possession of burglary tools.
