The new courthouse facility to be built on Price’s Main Street has currently been pushed back due to the interest rate being just over what was approved at previous commission meetings.

During Carbon County Commission meeting that took place on Wednesday, June 1, County Clerk Seth Oveson informed the commissioners that a 30-day hearing for public comment must occur once again and another public hearing must take place.

The new interest rate does not change that the state will pay, leaving no charge to Carbon County. After the public hearing, the bonds can be closed. The previous cost was considered on April 6 and the new public hearing should be occurring around 30 days from June 1.

Shelly Wright also approached the commissioners on Wednesday evening to discuss some improvements that will be coming to the local Children’s Justice Center. Wright informed the commissioners that the LDS foundation gave a huge contribution to Justice Centers across the state for recording rooms, soundproofing equipment, among others. The local center was in need of another room for private interviews, updated equipment and additional soundproofing.

Currently, the center has a bid from the same security service that equipped the existing room. There is also a company stationed in both Park City and St. George that has performed soundproofing upgrades to three different Justice Centers. Wright stated that they would like to use the same companies with whom they worked in the past.

Wright was informed by the commissioners that three bids are needed from three companies to have a bidding session. If other companies do not approach for bids the first quote may be used. The commissioners stated that as long as procedures are followed there should no reason that the upgrades cannot happen.
