Realignment of High School Regions Coming in 2019

At the end of the 2018 year, the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) approved a realignment proposal regarding regions and classifications statewide.

The new regions will shake up Castle Country teams, especially the Carbon Dinos, who will have completely new region opponents. One interesting note is that Carbon qualified to move up to 4A based on the number of students that attend the school. But ultimately, UHSAA decided to keep Carbon in the 3A classification. This decision is solely based on UHSAA and the schools in question do not have a say in the classification.

As for the new region, both Emery and Carbon will be in Region 12 along with Grand, Richfield, San Juan and South Sevier. Manti and North Sanpete, who are now in Region 15 with Emery, will be moved into Region 14 with ALA, Delta, Juab, Maeser Prep and Union.

The good news for the new Region 12 is that football will have the same region teams. This classification means that all sports will be aligned in the same region, which is not always the case. This will help all the teams in the region, as well as the region board, run a lot smoother.

The rivalry between Carbon and Emery is sure to heat up as the schools will play each other in all sports and compete against each other for region titles.
