Dan and Becky Johnson informed the Castle Dale City Council recently about the newly organized JustServe program, which is a free community resource sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. People in the community can use the website JustServe.org to work with community partners to identify needs and respond to those needs in the spirit of charitable service. If someone is interested in volunteering, they can use the same website to find service opportunities. The Johnson’s are overseeing this project in the area.

Jay Mark Humphrey from the Emery Water Conservancy District asked the city, as share holders, to write a letter to help them get the title to the water rights in the Joe’s Valley Project. The project was completely paid off in November 2016 and the Federal Government has yet to deliver a title to the project and the water rights to local users. Over two dozen other projects in the West have been paid off and a title has been transferred. The city was happy to comply with the requests of EWCD.

Autumn Arrien presented the plans for a “Special Needs Fun Day” on June 24. Castle Dale City will be a sponsor of this event and will help finance the activities for those individuals who will be attending. It is hoped that many from neighboring communities will also attend this fun filled day.

Resolution  No.5-11-2017 was approved, which will regulate the appeals of citizens of Castle Dale who apply for relief from culinary water bills due to undetected leaks. It also excludes businesses and industries from relief from leaks. It requires that an appeal must be written and presented to the council asking for inclusion in the next city council meeting. Other requirements include a paid in full water bill prior to the leak, leak must be between the meter and the first branch in the pipe or before the first valve, repair done quickly and relief will only be granted one time. The resolution passed with a vote of 4 to 1.

Other departments gave their reports to the council. The fire department is working on certification and seems to be accomplishing much in this area even though it is difficult to do.

Animal control is also accomplishing designated goals. The treasurer and recorder are busy preparing the budget for consideration of the council next month. Councilman Joel Dorsch announced a change in plans for some of Castle Dale Days in June. Instead of a roping event there will be a “Shoot Out” competition.
