This Final Decision Notice (DN) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) are based on the results of the analysis in the Environmental Assessment, a review of the public comments submitted in response to scoping and the public notice and comment opportunity, and the direction provided to managers in the Fishlake and Manti-La-Sal National Forests’ Land and Resource Management Plans (LRMP).

The Environmental Assessment (EA) is available for review at: the Fishlake National Forests Supervisor’s Office in Richfield, Utah, the Ferron-Price Ranger District in Ferron, Utah, the Manti-La Sal National Forest Supervisor’s Office in Price, Utah, and on the website at https://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/fishlake/landmanagement/projects. The South Fork Federal Coal Lease Modifications EA is incorporated by reference into this DN/FONSI.

The Forest Service proposed action is to consent to the Bureau of Land Management modifying Greens Hollow and Quitchupah federal coal leases, held by Canyon Fuel Company. These modifications include protection for spring sources within the project area.

The proposed South Fork Federal Coal Lease Modifications are located on the Fishlake and Manti-La Sal National Forests on the southern end of the Wasatch Plateau, in the Wasatch Plateau Known Recoverable Coal Resource Area in Sevier County, Utah. The area lies approximately 10.5 air miles west of the town of Emery, Utah. The proposed lease modifications include approximately 790 acres of federal land.

The project record is located at the Richfield Ranger District office, 115 E. 900 N. Richfield, Utah 84747 and Manti-La Sal National Forest Supervisor’s Office 599 West Price River Drive Price, UT 84501.
