Spartan Cross Country Places First at South Sevier

Both the Emery Spartan boys’ and girls’ cross country teams took part in a race at South Sevier High School on Wednesday, with the boys’ squad taking a first place finish.

The girls’ team placed third out of four teams. The boys placed six members in the top 10.

Jess Christiansen led the boys’ team with a second overall finish, with a time of 17:49, 20 seconds off the leader who nabbed a course record in the process. Bryar Meccariello was right behind Christiansen in third. Chase Christiansen, McKay Meccariello, Mason Faimalo and Byron Christiansen finished next, taking the fifth through eighth spots.

The Emery boys finished with 23 points, 36 points in front of second place Richfield.

Carlie Bennett was the lone Lady Spartan in the top 10, taking fifth with a time of 25:31.

Emery will take part in the Red Rocks Invitational in Moab on Wednesday.
