Spartan Swimmers Take Second and Third at State

The Emery High School Swim Team traveled to BYU on Thursday to compete against other 2A schools at the state competition. The girls team brought home a third-place finish coming behind Grand County and North Summit while the boys team brought home a second place finish behind North Summit.

A highlight of the meet was the first-place finish by the boys 200-yard freestyle relay team, made up of juniors Nate Gilbert and Daryl Guymon along with sophomore Dakota Wright and Freshman Keldan Guymon. The team finished with a time of 1:38.56, less than 1.00 ahead of second-place finisher Rowland Hall High School.

Several other relay teams contributed to the teams overall second and third place scores. The girl’s 200-yard medley relay team brought home a third place finish (2:16.46) for the Spartans thanks to Madi Allinson, Tarryn Parkins, Lexi Johansen and Kaitlyn Carter.

Wright and Keldan Guymon returned in the 200-yard medley relay along with team members Devin Willson and Garret Stilson to snag a second-place finish and a time of 1:55.50.

Both teams for the 400-yard freestyle relay brought home third-place victories with Carter, Erin Oliverson, Helena Celis and Allinson bringing home a 4:19.84 time for the girls and the boys clocking in at 3:38.82 thanks to Gilbert, Willson, Stilson and Daryl Guymon.

Allinson, besides helping several relay teams score big, brought home a second-place 2:32.65 finish in the 200-yard IM for her final state meet as a Spartan.

Junior Daryl Guymon brought home two third-place victories in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.52) and in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.40.) Fellow junior Stilson brought home a second-place finish for the Spartans with his 5:36.84 time in the 500-yard freestyle.
