The Emery Spartans wrestled in the Christmas Clash over the weekend. The set up consisted of a 32-team line bracket tournament.

Byron Christianson (106) pinned his opponent from Mountain View. Jarin Allen (113) won by pin in his first match and lost by decision, 10-4, in his second. Bryar Meccariello (145), McKay Meccariello (152),  Agustus Dalton (160) and Hayes Dalton (170) each won their respective matches by virtue of a pin.

Head coach Kirk Christiansen was proud of his team at both the JV and varsity levels. “The boys did great,” he said. “Both the varsity and JV finished fourth as teams.”

Jess Christiansen (106) and Dwain Farley (120) each wrestled as independents in the varsity tournament, so their matches did not count toward the team’s fourth place finish. Jess won by a major decision, 10-1, and a pin in his two matches. Farley won by a pin in his lone match.

The Spartans next head to duel against Richfield on Tuesday before they host Delta on Thursday to complete the week.
