The Spartans hosted a tune-up contest against Green River on Tuesday before the opening round of the state tournament this coming weekend. Seniors Cade Brazier, Brodie Tuttle, Mason Faimalo, Kyson Stilson and Rance Jensen were all honored as part of senior night.

The varsity team had a lot of playing time in the game that extended through the majority of the second half. The visiting Pirates could not keep up with the high powered Spartans’ offense but put forth a valiant effort. Emery beat a decent Green River team 112-79. Green River exceeded expectations with its shooting all night even though the Spartans played fairly good defense. It was a fast paced game in the high scoring affair as Green River tried to keep up with Emery’s high tempo offense.

Stilson had a game high 25 points followed by Brazier with 19. Rance Jensen and Justin Rasmussen had a team high 9 rebounds. Brax Jensen had 15 points while Tuttle broke double-digits with 10 points. The Spartans shot 57% from the field in the contest.

Although Emery played well, especially on the offensive end, the Spartans know they will have to clamp down on defense in the tournament against stiffer competition. The Spartans and the second seed South Summit Wildcats (15-7, 5-3 Region 13) will face off on Saturday at 8:10 p.m. The Spartans defeated the Wildcats 69-53 in mid-December but South Summit presents a tough match up for Emery due to the Wildcats’ size down low.

All tournament games will be streamed live online and on ETV Channel 10. Be on the lookout on our social media pages for an upcoming State Tournament Bracket Challenge and fill out your brackets for a chance to win Jazz tickets!
