Spartans Score Late to Take Victory Against Carbon *Photo Gallery*

Tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Emery Spartans scored three runs to take the 5-2 lead against the visiting Carbon Dinos, ultimately taking the victory by the same score. It was the only meeting between the two varsity teams this season.

The Spartans scored first in the bottom of the first inning. The Dinos tied the score at one in the top of the second. Each team scored in the third to keep the score tied before the Spartans ended the scoring in the bottom of the fifth to take the win.

Easton Gordon continued his hot streak from the plate, going 3-3 with two singles and a triple en route to two RBIs. Tel Gardner and Race Nielsen also went 2-3 in the game, each with two singles. Nielsen had two RBIs and Gardner had the other RBI in the game.

Carbon’s Chase Morgan had two hits in three at bats. Gavin Robinett, Nate Olson, Kameron Gunter and Zac Bradley all added singles in the game. Robinett and Bradley had the only RBIs in the loss. As a team, the Dinos stranded eight runners on base.

Gardner picked up the win for the Spartans, going 6 1/3, allowing just one earned run while striking out four. Robinett took the loss after spelling Bradley who went four innings while striking out eight Spartans. Robinett gave up three runs in the fifth.

Emery (7-1, 0-0 2A East) will host Union on Wednesday. Carbon (3-4, 0-0 Region 12) will play at Grand on Saturday.
