Spartans Shatter State Record at Division Championships

Victory came on Thursday as the Emery High Swim relay team of Keldan Guymon, Daryl Guymon, Garret Stilson and Nate Gilbert broke a previously held state record in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

While hosting other regional teams such as Gunnison, Millard, Delta and Grand, the Emery High boys’ and girls’ swim teams walked away as overall champions at the 2A South Division Championships Thursday.

The girls’ team finished with a strong 350, coming in ahead of second-place Grand, who managed 295 total. The team started off with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay courtesy of Alexis Johansen, Angellena Migliori, Kaelee Hooley and Katie Carter.

Emery’s BriAnne Bass made her appearance in the 200-yard freestyle, placing second while Carter grabbed third in the same event. Hooley and Johansen returned in the 200-yard IM, walking away with second and third, respectively.

Hooley also managed a second in the 100-yard butterfly with fellow Lady Spartan Shiloh Hayward managing third. Carter represented the Black and Gold additionally in the 100-yard freestyle, placing third. Bass and Oliverson continued their work, grabbing a second and third place finish for Emery in the 500-yard freestyle.

Migliori, Brooklyn Potter, Bass and Tarryn Parkins combined in the 200-yard freestyle relay for a second-place finish while Migliori also grabbed a third in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Lady Spartans dominated in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the A-team grabbing a 4:17.62 finish, worthy of first.

The boys’ team walked away from the meet with a total of 333, finishing off with over 100 more than second-place Grand.

Keldan Guymon, Daryl Guymon, Garret Stilson and Nate Gilbert opened the meet with a first-place finish for the boys, clocking in at 1:47.67 in the 200-yard medley relay. Garret Stilson grabbed another first in the 200-yard freestyle, 2:01.05, while teammate Deegan Minchey managed second.

Keldan Guymon grabbed a second in the 200-yard IM for Emery while Gilbert, coming in at 23.34, managed a first in the 50-yard freestyle. Daryl Guymon also grabbed a first for Emery in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 57.36.

Gilbert continued his work in the 100-yard free, where the senior grabbed another first-place victory thanks to a 53.31 finish. Garret Stilson and Minchey further represented the Spartans in the 500-yard freestyle, placing second and third, respectively.

Minchey, Parker Stilson, Johanthan Seely and Logan Cox poured in together to put up a second in the 200-yard freestyle relay while Keldan Guymon grabbed second in the 100-yard backstroke.

Daryl Guymon finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with his time of 1:06.87 before returning in the 400-yard freestyle to break the previously held state record along with teammates Keldan Guymon, Garret Stilson and Gilbert. The team finished first in the event, clocking in at 3:31.22.
