Spartans Tough in Road Contest at Grantsville Despite Loss

The Emery Spartans hung tough with 3A North number two Grantsville on the road Friday night, losing the tough battle, 21-13.

With the loss, Emery snagged the fifth seed out of 3A North and will travel to take on the Richfield Wildcats in a 3A play-in game on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Quarterback Kyson Stilson found Jared Snow in the back of the endzone early in the second quarter against Grantsville, taking the 7-0 lead into halftime on Friday. The Cowboys responded with two TDs in the third to take the lead going into the final quarter of the game.

Rance Jensen rushed 18 yards to paydirt early in the fourth to get the Spartans within one, 14-13. Granstville added another TD after that and held on for the win.

Emery and Richfield faced each other back on Aug. 18 in Richfield, with the Wildcats taking the 21-14 win. Richfield finished the season as 3A South’s fourth seed and will host Emery on Thursday at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 and streamed live at the following website: www.etv10news.com/livesports/etv-10-live-stream/
