The Emery Spartans were tripped up in Blanding on Friday night to conclude the regular season, dropping the contest to San Juan 59-57.

With the loss, Emery slipped into a tie with San Juan with identical 5-7 Region 15 records. The Spartans won the coin flip after the game and will take the fourth seed out of Region 15 to Wasatch High School on Saturday for the first round of the 3A Playoffs.

The Spartans led by nine, 48-39 entering the fourth quarter.

Brax Jensen led Emery with 16 points. Kyson Stilson and Eastern Gordon both added 12 apiece. Cade Brazier chipped in seven points.

As the fourth seed, Emery will take on Region 13’s third seed on Saturday at 11:50 a.m. in the first round of the 3A Playoffs. South Summit was idle Friday night after concluding its season earlier in the week, but Summit Academy’s win over Grantsville gave South Summit the third seed, and a matchup with the Spartans.

Emery beat South Summit 70-62 back on Dec. 15 in Castle Dale.

Emery finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-10, including a 5-7 mark in Region 15 action.
