The Green Team of Carbon County was established in January of 2009 as a non-profit and 100% volunteer-based organization. The goal of the Green Team is to reduce the amount of materials that go into the landfill through collecting and recycling these materials.

The Green Team has collection trailers placed at USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum, Sutherlands, the medical office complex behind Castleview Hospital, Helper City Hall parking lot, Country Lanes Bowling Alley, Creekview Elementary, Carbon High School, Mont Harmon Middle School’s rear parking lot, Emery Telcom/ETV News and Market Express. The trailers accept mixed papers (newspapers, magazines, junk mail, books), white or light office or school paper, and aluminum cans only. Please do not place garbage, plastic, glass, metal or cardboard in these trailers. The black expanded metal trailer located behind Market Express Sinclair on South Carbon Avenue is set up for cardboard recycling only.

Green Team of Carbon County Accomplishments:
• The community has recycled 12 tons of paper using the Green Team trailers in the last six months. This is a very small portion of what could be recycled if more people were involved.
• The team collects and bales approximately one-half ton of cardboard for recycling every 10 days. Green Team volunteers have been doing this for years. This is a small fraction of what could be recycled if we had additional resources like a baler, etc.
• The team collects aluminum cans at major community events (Greek Festival, East Carbon Community Daze, Carbon County Fair, baseball tournaments and other sporting events).
• Continued collection of papers from all schools in the Carbon School district will be offered in the coming year.

The Green Team board of directors are Jim Piacitelli, Steve Nelson, Kristi Mingus and Timothy Kennedy. Team members include Amy Nelson, Skylan Nelson, Don Polster, Dean Stacy, Terry Johnson, and Jeremy and Liz Trostle.

For more information on the Green Team of Carbon County, follow them on Facebook or visit their website at www.ccgreenteam.com. Community members who would like to become involved with the Green Team of Carbon County are encouraged to contact Timothy Kennedy at timothykennedy79@hotmail.com. On the second Thursday of each month beginning at noon and lasting one hour, the team meets at the Price City Hall in room 106 and encourages the community to get involved.

For those that prefer the additional convenience of having recyclables picked up from their curb, the private company, Recyclops is available to residents and businesses in Price, Helper, and Wellington. Recyclops does not require sorting and accepts mixed paper, plastic containers (#1-7), aluminum cans, steel cans, aluminum foil, chipboard, and cardboard. Glass is not currently accepted, but Recyclops does plan to expand and add glass recycling. The Green Team and Recyclops work closely together to promote recycling and sustainability.
