It is almost that time of year for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

The Relay for Life has been a part of Carbon County since 1996. It is an important community event that raises awareness and funds for cancer patients and survivors.

On Thursday evening, the Relay for Life kickoff event took place at the Carbon County Event Center. Refreshments for the night were provided by Happiness Within of Helper.

This year, the event lead is Carbon County resident Jennifer Passarella-Sanchez. Passarella-Sanchez has been a part of the Relay for Life in past years and has been working tirelessly to make this year something special.

Other members of this year’s Relay are Ruth Metzger, team recruitment and sponsorship, Terri Lott, accounting, and survivor chair Marilyn Vogrenic, who has worked for the Relay since it first came to our community in 1996.

It was explained at the kickoff that last year’s Relay was a happy success. The goal for the night was $25,000, and at the end, $35,000 was raised.

This year’s Relay for Life will take place on Saturday, June 25 from 9 a.m. to midnight at the Colosimo/Carlson Field #3, 800 North 1100 East in Price.
