USU Eastern Press Release

PRICE – Two Utah State Eastern women’s basketball players have signed letters of intents to play at four-year schools next season.

Sophomores Rashel Blazzard and Kaitlin Toluono have each signed a letter of intent to continue their playing careers in the state of Utah.

Blazzard signed with Dixie State University and will play along side current teammate Madison Loftus and former Eagle Maile Richardson.

“I am excited for Rashel to continue her basketball career at Dixie State. She did a wonderful job this year for us, we would have loved to have her for two years but wish her all the best,” said USU Eastern head coach Chelsey Warburton.

Toluono signed with Westminster, which is near her hometown of Taylorsville, up in Salt Lake City area.

In her lone season as an Eagle, Blazzard started all 30 games and averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. She also led the Eagles in free throw percentage with 89.1% from the line.

Before arriving in Price, Blazzard played for Westminster before serving an LDS mission to Panama.

Toluono started 50 games in her career at USU Eastern and averaged 8.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She tallied 400 career rebounds and 521 career points as an Eagle.

As a sophomore in 2017-18, she was named second team All-Region XVIII and was named to the All-Region XVIII tournament team.

Warburton said that she is proud of the way Kaitlin has accomplished her goals since arriving on campus in August of 2016.

“Kaitlin has been determined from day one to work hard and earn a scholarship after her time with us. I am happy to say her hard work paid off and I am confident she will do great things at Westminster College,” said Warburton.

Last season, the Eagles finished 18-13 overall and 4-8 in conference play. The Eagles were eliminated in the conference tournament semifinals by eventual tournament champion SLCC.
