Arminda Miera and Meekiah Noel desired to do something helpful for others this holiday season, so they contacted Ferron Elementary and the teachers there started their first ever food drive competition. The legwork for the drive was spearheaded by the two girls.

For the competition, the girls made a cardboard Grinch. Students were told that the Ginch’s heart would grow with their contributions. The heart of the Grinch started very small and grew to more than his body could contain. Over 1,400 (1,428 to be exact) nonperishable food items were donated.

When the food pantry directors came to gather the food, they remarked it was the largest donation from one place, filling the back of their pickup truck. It was also stated that the donations will certainly help with the needs of the holiday.
