The local Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAV) received its charter on June 1 after working diligently for two years to achieve that goal. There are only three DAVs in the state of Utah currently and it is a huge benefit to local veterans to have one so close to home.

DAV Auxiliary Commander Judy Roybal stated that the entire goal is to help local veterans, not only those that are disabled. Roybal also stated that any veteran that was not disabled in the war but is still in need of assistance can contact her and she will point them in the right direction.

“We want to be able to help our local vets and we want to be able to have a say in how the money is used,” Roybal stated.

Small events have been hosted by the DAV before to raise money, including selling forget-me-nots once a year. However, with the holidays steadily approaching, Roybal stated that the auxiliary wished to be able to help the local veterans with their holiday needs.

To do that, the auxiliary is hosting a silent auction fundraiser and spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Nov. 3. Over 50 donations have been received for the silent auction and range from a Louis Vuitton purse, stays at the Ramada and Holiday Inn, and an alignment and oil change from Big O Tires to gift certificates from the Animal Hospital, The Mane Place, Scoville Chiropractor and more.

A tent, tool set from Auto Zone, floral centerpiece from Love Floral and other exciting pieces are also in the silent auction. Also donated were many door prizes. The fundraiser will be hosted at the Tuscan Event Center with the silent auction running from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the dinner beginning at 4 p.m. and concluding at 8 p.m.

Castle Ranch Steakhouse is providing the dinner while local businesses are assisting in the salad fixings and religious organizations are helping with the desserts. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for kids aged ten to four, and free for children four and under. Also hosted at the fundraiser will be games, a cake walk and more.

Tickets for the dinner may be purchased by calling ahead and with each ticket purchased in advance, three game tickets will also be given. For more information or to reserve tickets, call Judy at (435) 299-9092, Sasha at (435) 299-0457, Cathy at (435) 650-8330 or Julia at (435) 820-6964.
