The USU Eastern women’s basketball team traveled to Rock Springs, Wyo. last week for two games. The Golden Eagles secured a win against Western Wyoming Community College before suffering their first loss of the season against Central Wyoming College.

On Friday, the team took on Western Wyoming and narrowly secured the win, 83-78. A close contest in the first saw the Eagles ahead 35-33 at the half. The team was able to finish out the game to secure the five-point win.

Bryanna Adams led the team with 15 points and seven rebounds followed by Ana Borges off the bench with 13. Seven steals and 33 offensive rebounds helped the Eagles secure the win.

The following day, USU Eastern suffered a difficult loss to Central Wyoming College, 80-79. The Eagles had a definite advantage at the end of the first half with a 49-36 lead. The tables were turned in the second as Central Wyoming rallied to dominate 44-30. The loss marks the first for the women’s team this season, putting them at 8-1.

Borges, Fisher Caroline and Barbara Cousino led the team with 11 points each. 29 offensive rebounds and 82% free throw shooting was not enough to propel the Eagles to the win.

The team will continue play on Friday against Chemeketa Community College and Saturday against Lethbridge College.
