Press Release

The Utah State Eastern men’s soccer team picked up two more conference wins over the Colorado Northwest Spartans on Friday and Saturday in Craig, Colo.

On Friday, the Eagles took care of the Spartans with a dominating 7-1 win. Sophomore Robin Bopeso scored a goal in the first four minutes of the game to put the Eagles ahead early.

The scoring continued throughout the first half as sophomore Tristan Booth and freshman Frank DeBry each put in a goal. The Eagles also added another goal when CNCC scored in their own net.

In the second half, sophomores Carlos Heredia and Jaysten Flowers each added goals for the Eagles. Flowers finished the game with two goals and an assist, all of which came in the second half on Friday.

The next day the Eagles would shutout the Spartans 5-0 on Saturday with sophomore keeper David Novoa in net for the full game.

Flowers, Booth, DeBry, sophomore Omar Suarez and freshman Luke Madsen each scored a goal in Saturday’s game.

With his goal on Saturday, DeBry currently leads the Eagles in goals with six.

Utah State Eastern head coach Ammon Bennett said after the games that he was happy for the results in Colorado.

“We did a lot of good things  but we did a lot of things that isn’t who we are as a team,” said Bennett.

The two wins in Colorado give the Eagles a 7-5-2 overall record with a 5-2 record in conference.

The Eagles will now have a couple days to get ready to play College of Southern Nevada team, who comes to Price on Wednesday.

“We need to prepare for their high pressure, they attack well and sometimes you have to be willing to play defense first when you play them,” said Bennett.

The game is a very important game for the Eagles and hosting the conference tournament, according to Bennett.

“We are tied for first with them. The winner of the game takes a big step forward in the process of hosting the conference tournament,” said Bennett.

Wednesday’s game against CSN is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at the USU Eastern soccer field.
