USUE’s Mafi Named SWAC Player of the Week

Utah State Eastern sophomore volleyball player Sarah Mafi has been named Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Week. She receives the honor after an impressive opening weekend on the court, leading her team to two wins.

“Sarah is a player that stands out wherever she plays and whoever she is playing against. She had a great weekend and she was a huge leader for our team. She did not back down this weekend and set after set, she kept improving,” said Utah State Eastern head coach Danielle Jensen.

Offensively, Mafi scored 63 kills with an average of 3.94 kills per set. On defense, she put up 55 digs and averaged 3.44 per set with four reception errors in 16 sets.

In the first game of the season against Western Wyoming, Mafi put up a weekend high of 22 points with 14 digs.

She ranks fifth in the nation in kills, 12 in kills per set, and fifth in scoring.

She also is a team captain for the USU Eastern volleyball team.

The Spanish Fork native is the daughter of Amy and Afu Mafi.
