A tragic shooting took place in Ferron last Saturday at the home of Randy Behling, leaving A’Lisa Weston dead and the surrounding community reeling.

There is not any new information that can be released due to the on-going investigation. However, Captain Kyle Ekker of the Emery County Sheriff’s office was able to confirm a few things that have been unclear thus far.

“The last of the evidence was sent off to the state crime lab today,” reported Ekker. He said it could be weeks before any of it comes back.

It has been reported that at approximately 10:30 on the night of July 28th, police responded to a 911 call made by Behling about the shooting. В Ekker confirmed that the shooting took place in the bathroom of Behling’s home where Weston was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. В Captain Ekker also confirmed that there were children in the home at the time of the shooting.

On July 30th, Emery County prosecutors charged Behling with manslaughter, a second-degree felony; four counts of reckless endangerment, which are class A misdemeanors; and carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence of alcohol, a class B misdemeanor.

“The charges filed are appropriate for the what the evidence supports,” said Ekker.

Behling was given the choice by the judge to either post $10,000 bail or to voluntarily check into an inpatient treatment center for substance abuse. В Behling chose the latter, and is currently being treated at a substance abuse facility.

The children that were present at the time of the shooting are being cared for by family members.
