A total of 16 teams competed in the annual horseshoe tournament hosted in conjunction with the Carbon County Fair. Though high numbers provided a fun competition for those in attendance, the total number of teams were down from last year due to select individuals participating in the Demolition Derby.
A team made up of the Mead brothers took third place while Toney Vessels and Justin Prettyman walked away with a second-place finish. Dustin Lofley and Michael Lofley fought their way to a first-place finish.
Those interested in participating in the sport will soon have another chance as the pioneer Helper Arts Festival Horseshoe Tournament is slated for Saturday, Aug. 20. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and the tourney will commence an hour later at 11 a.m. A fee of $20 will be required at registration and the awards presentation will take place that evening at 6 p.m. on the Helper Main Street stage.
