Sorenson Waives Preliminary Hearing

Bart Sorenson appeared before Judge Harmond in 7th District Court Friday morning for a preliminary hearing.

Sorenson’s original court appearance was in July when he was formally charged with 40 counts of forcible sexual abuse.

Sorenson was represented by attorney David Allred, who made it known to the court that his client wished to waive his preliminary hearing. Prosecutor Gene Straight consented to the waiver and it was granted by Judge George Harmond.

While there is currently a no-contact order in place preventing Sorenson from contacting the alleged victims, Prosecutor Straight asked the court to stipulate that Sorenson also not attend any activities of the alleged victims. Judge Harmond agreed that it would be the “wiser course of action until this matter is resolved.”

Sorenson will be arraigned on Oct. 3 at 12:30 p.m. in the same court.
