19th Annual Seniors & Caregivers Conference at Active Re-Entry

It’s time once again for Active Re-Entry’s Annual Caregivers & Seniors Conference which will be held April 26th at Active Re-Entry. This will be the 19th year Active Re-Entry has sponsored the conference which address issues of caring for a loved one as well as issues related to our aging population.

The conference will begin with a continental breakfast at 8:30. At 9:00, Mathew Health, RN Case Manager, with the Price Veterans Clinic will present on services available locally to Veterans through the clinic as well as other VA services and programs.

Dr. Jeffery Hansen from the Eastern Utah Eye Clinic will talk about vision problems that often occur as a result of aging, such as Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy and cataracts, as well as things you can do to improve eye health.

With many changes taking place in health care reform and the Affordable Care Act, Darren Hotten, from the Utah State Health Insurance Program will provide information on changes in Medicare such as free wellness exams and screenings. Darren will also provide information on Medicare drug programs and Medicare supplemental insurance policies.

A popular topic from last year=s conference was Easy Exercises for Seniors. Diana Root, Fitness Instructor, will demonstrate easy exercises that can be done by almost anyone with minimal equipment and effort. These exercises are simple but very effective ways of increasing strength, flexibility and stamina.

Michelle Harvey, Access to Justice Coordinator, will present information on a new program starting up in this area. This program seeks to find attorneys to provide pro bono legal services for low income clients, provide free legal clinics and match attorneys and qualified clients.

With Elder Abuse Prevention month coming up, Austin Cartwright from Adult Protective Services will talk about possible signs of elder abuse and exploitation as well as resources and appropriate steps to take if abuse is suspected. The conference will conclude with Daniel Heaton, Doctor of Pharmacy, talking about medication management, drug interactions, and immunizations for the elderly.
