Winning first twice in a weekend is unusual for high school team roping, but that’s what Emery’s Hayden Cloward and partner, Whit Crozier from Uintah Basin Rodeo Club, did in Vernal Friday and Saturday. At the Rich High School rodeo on Friday, they caught their steer in 6.6 seconds and on Saturday at the Uintah Basin Rodeo, they roped in 7.3 seconds to capture first place both times. Both rodeos were at the Western Park in Vernal, the second weekend of the high school rodeo season.

Riata Christiansen also was chosen queen over both rodeos again this weekend and ninth in reining cow horse. On Friday, Bowdie Jacobsen and his partner Haygen Kogianes, SUC, placed third with Will and Wyatt Magnuson sixth in team roping, all Emery rodeo club members. Rifle competition honors went to Carbon’s Kolton Rhodes, third; Jordon Pierce, fifth; Kagen Rhodes sixth and Brandle Colonna 10th. Jordon Pierce also placed seventh in the Trap Shooting competition.

Saturday besides Hayden and Whit’s win in team roping, Emery’s Jessica Fox and Makayla Jensen were eighth and ninth in breakaway roping. Jacobsen was fifth in tie down roping. In rifle shooting, Dinos Kolton Rhodes, third; Jordon Pierce, fifth; and Brandle Colonna, 10th. Jordon was eighth in the trap shooting as well.

Rodeo goers will take a break over Labor Day weekend and Jr. High School competition will be in Nephi Friday and Saturday. On September 9 and 10, high school action will be in Panguitch.
