Susan Fielder Ehler presented a request to rezone to the Land Use Committee of Castle Dale City on Thursday at the committee’s regular September meeting.
The request was to rezone 2.93 acres at 760 North Center Spartan Avenue from RR-1 (rural residential) to CC-1 (central commercial) so the land can be utilized for a specialty beverage and snack kiosk. This business would serve a number of coffee drinks with other emphasis on healthy beverages for high school students. The plan includes demolition of the old Fielder home and placing a drive-in kiosk on the cement trailer pad.
A public hearing is required to make a zoning change and will be held on Oct. 24 at the next Castle Dale Land Use Committee meeting.
Elements Traverse then approached to committee to discuss buying property at 690 North Bell Avenue (the Esplin home) to make a group home/business office for the organization’s therapy-based wilderness adventure for young adults. This is a company that focuses on young adult clients and their unique needs.
Elements Traverse had not been placed on the agenda so no action could be taken by the committee, but committee members listened while the representative described their needs for a larger, owner-based business office and home. Questions by the committee included parking, traffic, numbers of staff housed there and noise.
This company will also be at the next Land Use Committee meeting on Oct. 24 hoping to receive permission to locate their business in Valley View. The committee told the representative they had three options: a group home permit, rezoning to commercial or a conditional use permit for residential zoning. More information on this company can be found at elementstraverse.com.
Following the Oct. 24 meeting, recommendations from the Land Use Committee will be presented to the Castle Dale City Council during its next regularly-scheduled meeting.
