The Sunnyside rodeo and royalty contest are annual staples of the community and highly anticipated as they come around each year.

For 2019, the royalty contest for the rodeo was hosted on June 30, beginning promptly at 3 p.m. that afternoon. Hosted at the Sunnyside arena, the contestants were put through a series of competitions, such as riding their horse through a given pattern, before being crowned.

At the end of the competition, Elyza Taylor of Ferron was crowned queen. The first attendant is Oaklee Hopes of Castle Dale while the second attendant is Kaitlynn McArthur of Wellington. The two princesses are Abree Allred of Clawson and Danica Adams of Price. Following the crowning, there was an open barrel race that included added money as well as a silent auction.

The royalty will now be a part of the 69th annual rodeo that is slated for July 12 and 13 at 8 p.m. each evening. During the rodeo, the royalty will move the cattle in the arena. The royalty will also ride in the parade that is in conjunction with the rodeo and celebrations. The parade will take place on Saturday, July 13.
