Millard took an early lead against Emery at Kearns high school Thursday, but the Spartans battled back with a lot of help from one player.
Emery’s Gavin McDermott cleared the bases with a double over the center fielder’s head tying the game three against the Eagles after Millared took an early 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Dillon Wilstead doubled to start the inning. Ethan Tuttle followed up with a ground ball to second base, which advanced Wilstead to third. With two outs McDermott drove the winning run in, pushing the Spartans past the Eagles 4-3 in the 2A State winner’s bracket.
Emery advances to the next round and will play Kanab tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at Gates Field at Kearns High School.
