Friday, Jan. 26 was a day for the history books for the Carbon High School Swim Team.

At the final home meet of the season against Canyon View, the Girls 200-yard individual medley relay team broke a thirty-year-old record set in 1986 by a .15 margin, clocking in at 2:06.82. Freshman Megan Swasey, sophomore Kaisha Lott, and juniors Veronica Ibanez and Sadie Crompton worked together to set the new record.

The girls’ team continued to fight strong throughout the meet, which lead to a second-place finish by six points. Ibanez returned in the 200-yard freestyle to place first in the event at 2:17.92, almost fifteen seconds in front of Canyon View’s Jordyn Anderson. Swasey returned in the 200-yard individual medley, taking first as well (2:54.23.) Ibanez would also take first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:10.02.

The 200-yard IM relay team returned to take first again in the 200-yard freestyle relay finishing at 1:57.78, .40 before Canyon View’s second-place finishing team. Swasey swam her way to another first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and a time of 1:15.83. Crompton came back to score first (1:18.74) in the 100-yard breaststroke, with fellow Lady Dino Alheli Pendleton taking second.

The boys’ team placed second overall as well, with several senior class members swimming their strongest at their final meet at the Price City Pool. Senior Kaden Earl placed first in the 50-yard freestyle coming in at 24.10. Fellow senior Harry Torgerson also placed first for the Dinos in the 500-yard freestyle finishing with a time of 6:38.73, with freshman Dino Chad Laursen coming in second. Joseph Keller, another senior from Carbon High School, swam to a first-place finish and time of 1:13.70 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
