The 2016 Price City International Days Championship Golf Tournament, boosted by Castleview Hospital and powered by Coca-Cola, was held on Saturday at the Carbon County Country Club with over 250 golfers, vendors and volunteers in attendance.
Mr. Larry Stella, the tournament grand marshall, started the tournament with the ceremonial first shot and Keith Cox with an assist from Fox 13’s Big Buddha lit the cannon for the blasts to get things underway.
Golf pro Tom King commented that the International Days Golf Tournament has quickly become the biggest premiere scramble tournament south of the Wasatch Front. 32 Teams from throughout the state and five surrounding states participated and competed.
The day started early with breakfast for everyone sponsored by Sutherlands, the presentation of the colors by the Price American Legion and singing of the National Anthem by Jennifer Lopez. The day concluded with lunch sponsored by Bruno Engineering and Bodec.
The team of John Vaszquz, Phil Arnold, Dan Canata and Dave Canata took home the top spot with a team score of 55, 15 strokes under par. Mandy Davis, Ggrady McEvoy, Terry Erickson and Kent Bigelow all qualified throughout the day for the $3,000 putting contest and Steve Erramouspe, Richard Tatton, Jay Noyes, Dave Johnson, Jake Tanner and TJ Polster all qualified to try a hole-in-one shot for $100,000. Unfortunately, there were not any winners this year.
Young Ryker Smith won the long drive contest on hole #2 and Lynn Ray, World Long Drive Champion, set a Guinness Book of World Records, backward long drive record during the event with a backward long drive shot of 339.33 yards as well as hit some exhibition shots!
Price City thanks the many great tournament sponsors, vendors, volunteers, golfers and staff that made the tournament a great success. All tournament proceeds will be distributed to local area charities in the coming month.
