Castle Dale Fire Department had a record number of recruits this summer, but when there are new recruits, there’s new training. In order to keep the fire department ready for anything, the fire chief must create opportunities for the greenest members on the team to gain a little seasoning.

Training will take place every month. Each practice will give the rookies a different type of training. The first involved a vehicle fire simulation utilizing an abandoned camper that had been left on city property for two years.

The fire chief ignited the vehicle,  giving recruits the chance to run through basic drills in full gear. Each rookie was assigned a senior firefighter team member to assist with the practice.
