3A Girls Golf State Championships

Carbon and Emery girl’s golf teams competed at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Salt Lake City for the 3A State Championships. The course was set for a par 72 at 5,787 yards. Playing the first nine holes on day one, the golfers had to place in the top 11 teams to compete the next day.

Carbon was unsuccessful at making the cut, as the team went +133, missing out by only three strokes to overtake Judge Memorial. Three Lady Dinos were still in to compete in the individual competition. Grace Simms, Kaylynn Black and Carley West qualified for day two.

However, the Lady Spartans team would advance, as the team placed in the eighth spot with a score of 408. After day one in the book, Richfield was comfortably ahead with a 327 score, ahead of the second-place team Juan Diego (332). Emery would compete in day two, scoring 413, ending the tournament with a score of 821, tying with Manti. Richfield (648) would win the team score by 30 strokes, ahead of Juan Diego (678) in second and Morgan (725) placing in third.

In the individuals, Carbon’s West led the hometown teams with a 176 score, finishing fifteenth overall out of 94 competitors. West ends her impressive season by missing the top ten by only three strokes. Brandee Larceval also had a great year for the Lady Spartans, finishing tied at 26, ending the tournament with a 193 score. Larceval was followed closely by her also-impressive teammate, Cheyenne Bingham, finishing at 31 with a 195 score.

Black finished with a score of 199 for the Lady Dinos, placing in a tie for 34. She was followed by her teammate, Simms, who finished tied at 43, with a score of 204. Rounding out the competitors for Emery were Reagan Jackson, Claire Lindsey, Audrey Yost and Clarissa Beagley, as well as Carbon’s Leah Sweeney and Ashlynn Coho.
