After eight games over the weekend, Emery baseball and softball teams left their respective tournaments having scored a combined 88 runs.
The Lady Spartans left the St. George Warm-up with a 4-1 record, while the Spartan baseball team went 2-1 at the Montrose, Colo. tournament.
Whitney Roper and Bryton Hess powered Emery passed Ogden in its first game on Friday, 13-2. Roper picked up the win in the circle and Hess homered for the Spartans.
Emery then pounded the North Sevier Wolves by a 17-1 margin. The Lady Spartans then finished Friday’s schedule with another impressive win against Kanab, 15-0. Emery outscored Friday’s opponents by a staggering 45-3 mark.
The Lady Spartans took on American Leadership Academy it their first game on Saturday and won the hard-fought contest 13-8. Emery finished up the tournament with a loss against Enterprise 10-2.
The Lady Spartans sit at 6-3 overall, and will travel to 3A Juab tomorrow before hosting Richfield Friday for their Region 15 opener.
Jordan Cox picked up his second win of the season Friday in Emery’s first tournament game against Moffat Colo. High School. Emery scored three runs in the second and fourth innings and plated eight in the third inning to cruise to a 15-3 win. Brandon Oliver and Drexler Tanner pounded out doubles in the contest.
Emery’s offense then went dry against Palisade, Colo. The Spartans gave up five first-inning runs and two more in the sixth and lost 7-1. Hunter Huntington picked up the loss on the mound.
The Spartan bats woke up Saturday and again plated eight runs in a single inning en route to a 12-5 win over Delta, Colo. Emery trailed 3-1 entering the top of the sixth when it exploded for the eight runs. Tappan Draper doubled and tripled and Brandon Oliver picked up his second win of the season.
Emery (4-2 overall) will host Uintah tomorrow before starting Region 15 play against Richfield on Friday.В Emery beat Uintah 7-6 March 6 for its first win of the season.
