Losers of two-straight games, the Carbon High School baseball team looked to rebound on Saturday against 3A Union and 4A Highland in Roosevelt. The Dinos swept the doubleheader and left with a two-game win streak.

In game one against Union, Carbon jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one and added five more runs in the fifth inning to earn its fourth win on the young season 7-3. Clay Finkbiner led the Dinos with three triples and Dylan Vogrinec and Kris Murdock each added a double in the win. Dino pitcher Jake Nicols picked up his second win of the year.

Carbon’s Dakota Cisneros went the distance on the mound and hit a home run in game two against Highland to lead the Dinos to a 13-6 win. Carbon fell behind after one 3-0, but pushed across six runs in the second and five in the sixth and a couple more in the seventh to seal the victory. The Dinos pounded out 16 hits in the game. Nichols doubled three times and Julian Tamllos and Bryce Blackburn each had a couple of two-baggers to push Carbon’s overall record to 5-3.

The Dinos have two games this week before Region 12 play begins March 27 at Juab. Carbon will travel to 4A Maple Mountain Tuesday and then host 2A Layton Christian on Thursday.

The Lady Dinos had won three of their previous four games going into Friday’s matchup with Grand County, but Carbon let a 8-0 lead slip away and lost the non-region tilt 11-9.

The Dinos jumped all over the Red Devils scoring five runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second and another in the third to take the 8-0 lead. Grand County responded with five runs of its own in the fourth and another in the sixth and five more in the seventh to complete the comeback. Both teams combined for 27 hits in the game. Nikki Williams and Shaylie Jones each hit home runs for Carbon.

The Dinos (4-6, 0-0) will host North Sanpete (3-4, 0-0)В TuesdayВ for their Region 12 home opener.
