Three of the four local baseball and softball teams are preparing for the playoffs next week. Unfortunately, though, the Lady Dinos won’t be participating.
The Emery baseball team pulled out 3-1 victory over the San Juan Broncos on Thursday capturing the Region 15 title. Brandon Oliver picked up his fifth win on the season. The Spartans then ended the regular season with a 23-6 win at Union on Saturday. Emery (8-2, 13-7) pounded out 24 hits in its 13th win on the season. Both hits and runs were season-highs for the Spartans.
The Lady Spartans narrowly missed their own Region 15 crown, losing their region finale to San Juan 8-3. Emery then committed nine errors in a 9-5 home loss to Gunnison Tuesday. The Lady Spartans (6-2, 15-6) will conclude their season Thursday at Uintah.
Sitting in fourth place in Region 12, the Carbon Dinos have dropeed five-straight games heading into a showdown with last-place North Sanpete on Thursday. The Dinos (3-5, 11-8) would have the fourth seed heading into the playoffs if the season ended today.
The Lady Dinos have struggled this season, notching just one win in Region 12 heading into their season finale FridayВ against Delta. Carbon (1-8, 6-16) is coming off a 22-0 home loss against Spanish Fork on Tuesday.
Playoff seeding has yet to be determined and will come out next week.
