McCall Spears presented her platform Tuesday at the Emery County Commission meeting in preparation for the Miss Utah Pageant in October.

“Every little girl’s dream is to become a princess and now I have that dream thanks to Emery County,” Spears started out by saying.

Her platform rests on texting and driving paired up with the national Buckle up and Stop Texting Program. Spears traveled around to area schools with Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk teaching students about the dangers of texting and driving. They then had those in attendance sign a commitment card to not text and drive.

The text found in the commitment card mentions Alex Brown, a Texas teen who passed away in 2009 as a result of texting and driving.

“Everyone in this room should sign to not text and drive or use distractions (while driving) because it is becoming a really big issue,” Commissioner Laurie Pitchforth said.

Spears finished by saying, “I hope to see that we continue to do this program every year to make another girl’s dream come true.”
