Congressman Jim Matheson said in the face of great uncertainty about the future of the health care reform law he is encouraged that the private sector is offering some assurances about health coverage for many Utah families.

Matheson said that as the country awaits an imminent decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, consumers, businesses and health care providers are in limbo about the future of health care access and costs.

“Some of the largest private insurers that provide health insurance in Utah have said that they will keep some parts of the law that have already taken effect, regardless of the court ruling. Provisions such as coverage of preventive care without a co-pay, and allowing adult children up to age 26 to stay on their parents’ policies are helping Utah families with budgeting.  I am encouraged that –at least in part—the health care picture isn’t a complete unknown,” said Matheson.

Matheson says his biggest concern –that there is no plan to address health care cost inflation—remains, regardless of how the Supreme Court rules.
