The Prison Relocation Commission (PRC) will meet Friday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. At the meeting, the commission will decide whether the proposed site in the local area qualifies for consideration as a site for a new Utah State Prison. Though a prison in the area could help the local economy, the state has to consider whether the local site, among others, would meet the demands of the inmates, their families, local law-enforcement and prison staff. No date has been set for a final decision on the location of the prison.
The estimated cost to demolish the current prison is $8,882,060 while the estimated range to build a new prison is between $90 million and $325 millions dollars. To view the master plan for the potential relocation of the Draper prison, please visit https://le.utah.gov/interim/2014/pdf/00005688.pdf
