With the 2A Playoffs just around the corner, Emery needed a win Friday night against the visiting South Summit Braves to improve its playoff seeding. Tied at halftime, the Spartans were outscored 35-14 the rest of the way and slipped into a tie with Gunnison with just one game remaining.
Spartan running backs Marco Mota and Jared Shakespeare rushed for three touchdowns, collectively, and quarterback Spencer Labrum hooked up with wideout Bailey Faimalo for another. Otis Addison returned a kickoff for 95 yards for a touchdown to round out the scoring on the night.
Emery (5-3, 3-3 2A North) now finds itself in a tie with Gunnison (3-5, 3-3 2A North) after the Bulldogs victory over North Summit Friday. Emery holds the tiebreaker over Gunnison after the Spartans’ 28-25 victory over the Bulldogs September 28.
Emery will travel to North Summit (2-6, 2-4 2A North) Friday to conclude its regular season. Gunnison will travel to South Summit (6-2, 5-1 2A North).
