During Veterans Day on Wednesday, members of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars held a flag ceremony in honor of the holiday and to celebrate the new flag pole that was donated to them.
Jim Lopez of the VFW spoke a few words at the ceremony, explaining that the VFW was in need of a flag pole to raise a flag outside of its building, and with the help of an Eagle Scout and Carbon County, it was successful in receiving one.
Eagle Scout Drew Jones took on the project of getting a flag pole for the VFW. Jones spoke at the ceremony and said that he thought that finding a flag pole would be a huge project but was pleasantly surprised to find that it was easier than he first assumed.
“It taught me I can do hard things and stand up and make things happen,” he said.
The flag pole was donated to the VFW by members of Carbon County. Lopez requested to have a member of the city council speak but was unable to locate one in the crowd. However, he was able to get Price City Mayor Joe Piccolo to stand in front of the crowd and say some humbling words about veterans. Afterward, Lopez spoke again and shed some light on the fact that the VFW always has its doors open to veterans of any kind, to let them know that they are not alone.
“If vets need help, they know they can come here to us,” Lopez said during his speech.
