Eight local athletes were named to Deseret News’ football and volleyball all-state teams this month. Two of the selections were also named to academic all-state teams as well, joining four others who were named to the prestigious lists.
In football, Carbon’s Peyton Fausett and Dallyn Mower were named to the 3A 2nd Team. Both seniors anchored this year’s Dinos squad that went 1-9 under first-year coach Josh Huntsman. Running back Nate Olson earned honorable mention honors as a sophomore.
Several Carbon and Emery volleyball players made all-state teams as well. Sara Morley and Mallory Bradley were named from Carbon. Morley found herself on the 2nd team and Bradley was placed on the honorable mention squad. Emery’s Jessica Olsen, Camrey Johnson and Bayler Griffin earned honorable mention honors.
Olsen, Johnson and Jessica Mason also earned academic all-state honors with a combined 4.0 GPA.
Other athletes named to academic all-state teams include Carbon cross-country runners Dalton Latimer and Gabe Van Dyke, along with Emery’s Travis Fehlberg.
