Playing without their star player, the Carbon Dinos still had plenty of firepower against the visiting South Sevier Rams Wednesday night, beating the 2A power 66-64. It was Carbon’s second straight two-point win and its fourth straight overall. Carbon played the game without its leading scorer in Cole Fossat, who injured his left leg in practice on Monday.

Brad Williams led the Dinos with 14 points. He nailed four threes in the game, all of which came in the first half. Williams hit a three at the end of the first half to cut the Ram lead under 10, 40-32. Gage Daugherty came off the bench to pour in 13, including three threes. Carbon hit 11 treys in the game. Kyle Quinton also came off bench to pour in 12 on 5-7 shooting.

Kasey Moynier hit a three to begin the game for Carbon, cutting the South Sevier lead to one at 4-3. Williams kept the Dinos close in the quarter by hitting two three pointers. The Rams held a 22-15 lead after one.

South Sevier scored the first five points in the second to lead by its largest margin of 12, 27-15, before Carbon went on a 13-4 run to get within three, 31-28, with two minutes to go in the half. The Rams extended their lead back to eight, 40-32, at the half.

Mitch Olson hit one of his two threes at the 2:15 mark of the third to give Carbon its first lead of the game, 45-44. A South Sevier three at the buzzer would give the lead back to the Rams to break the 47-all tie.

Quinton and Daugherty spurred the Dinos in the fourth, helping their team to its largest lead of the game at five, 66-61, with just one minute remaining. With the game at 66-64 and under 30 seconds to play, Quinton blocked two Ram shots within 10 seconds to seal the win for the Dinos.

Carbon (8-5, 0-0 Region 12) will face off against Emery on Saturday night in Castle Dale. The game can be viewed live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
