Zach Jorgensen scored a career-high 24 points, including six treys, in the Emery Spartans’ 69-53 win over Providence Hall in the first round of the 2A Playoffs Saturday night in Orem. Not to be outperformed, Koby Butler pitched in a double double with 20 points and 10 boards.
After a number of turnovers in the early part of the first quarter, Emery was able to shake off the jitters thanks in part to shots falling from behind the arc. Kolton Butler hit his only three in the first quarter and Jorgensen added five of his six three pointers in the first half as the Spartans cruised to a 40-28 lead at the break.
An upstart Providence Hall team gave it all it could against a bigger Emery team, but Emery was able to keep its foot on the gas pedal for the win.
To go along with his game-high 24 points, Jorgensen also notched a double double in the game with 10 rebounds, the first of his career. Bowdie Jacobson was the other Spartan in double figures with 10 points. Kolton Butler chipped in a hard-earned seven.
Emery will now take on Delta in the quarterfinals of the 2A Playoffs on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10.
