The Carbon and Emery rodeo teams traveled north this past weekend, seeking important points during the high school rodeo season.

The queen contest for the weekend took place on Thursday evening in Tremonton. Carbon’s Kourtney Backus was selected queen and Emery’s Riata Christiansen was first attendant.

First up was the Bridgerland Rodeo on Friday in Logan. The following rodeo team members placed in the top ten, earning points toward the state final competition.

Emery: Austin Allred, second in bull riding. Louie Ivie and Stephan Ramone, second in team roping. Bowdie Jacobson and Allred, ninth in team roping. Ty Gordon, ninth in tie-down roping. McKoy Christiansen, fourth in reining cow competition.

Carbon: Kolton Rhodes, third in rifle shoot. Jordon Pierce, first in trap shoot, fourth in rifle shoot.

Then on Saturday, the Bear River rodeo team hosted competitors in Tremonton.

Emery: Gordon and Taylor Wilstead, fourth in team roping. Jacobson and Allred, sixth in team roping. Makayla Jensen, fifth in breakaway roping. Ivie, third in tie-down roping.

Carbon: Afton McCourt, seventh in breakaway roping, ninth in goat tying. Rhodes, second in rifle shoot. Pierce, fourth in rifle shoot, 10th in trap shoot.

Stormy weather was a factor in the competition, and some contestants chose to withdraw because of the slick arena conditions. Those that competed did so in the muck and mud.
