Three large ensembles from the Carbon High School choir department participated in the region large ensemble at Juab High School in April.
The school’s all-women choir, Musettes, as well as their Men’s Choir performed at the event. For the festival, two of the school’s audition choirs, Vocal Jazz and Concert Choir, also joined together to form a large concert choir that also participated.
All choirs represented the school well, with the joint concert choir bringing home three superior ratings and, in the process, qualified for the state competition.
The state-wide competition will be held on May 14 at the University of Utah where the choir will compete with 86 of the state’s top choirs. The singers will perform three select numbers that evening in the famous Libby Gardner Hall and also have a chance to work with one of four adjudicators from across the country.
The CHS choirs are under the direction of Arthella Williams. This is the first time in her five years of teaching that one of her choirs has attended the competition.
