On Monday morning, students, teachers and guests met in the gymnasium of Cottonwood Elementary school in order for the school to receive a very special award.
Principal John Hughes and Mrs. Carroll introduced the Road to Success Reading sponsored by the UESP program and have encouraged the students throughout the year to work hard and read, read, read. The students met the challenge and read a total of 1.2 million minutes, a staggering achievement for the 160 students of the school.
232 schools competed in the program and Cottonwood was one of two winners out of them all. Three representatives of UESP came to the school and presented them with a check for $529 that will be used toward the school’s reading or curriculum tools.
“We are so proud of the commitment to reading and success that Mr. Hughes and Cottonwood have made,” said a UESP representative.
