In continuing on with Region 19 Action, the Pinnacle Boys’ Basketball Team wound their way through two home matches, taking a close victory against cross-county rival Green River in the process.
Starting off last Friday, Jan. 27, the Panthers opened play against Monticello and lagged throughout the entire game.
The Panthers did manage a high 10 in the second, but ended the match with a 55-35 loss overall.
Redemption came, however, the next match as Pinnacle hosted Green River on Tuesday. The match started in what appeared to be the Pirates’ favor, with the first half ending 24-14, seemingly an all-too familiar situation for the Panthers.
Pinnacle dug deep, however, in the third and put up 14 to try and level out the score, taking it to 32-28. Both teams fought hard in the fourth, putting up game-highs of 18 for Green River and 24 for Pinnacle, leading the Panthers to the 52-50 victory.
Valentin Acosta shone in the match against Green River, managing 24 points and sinking three 3-pointers. Kaden Daughters similarly performed, boasting a combined 27 points over the two-game streak and sinking two threes in the latter game.
Pinnacle’s next chance to score another victory will come on Friday as the team hosts Navajo Mountain.
