It’s that time of year again! Time to start thinking about minor home repairs and yard maintenance. Not physically or financially able to make these repairs yourself? Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country can help. Through Habitat’s A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) home repair program, elderly, veteran and low-income residents of Carbon and Emery counties can apply for assistance.
Through ABWK, recipients are provided with material, labor and repairs with costs covered through a no-interest loan provided by the local Habitat chapter. Loans are designed with the borrower in mind and affordable monthly payments are set up. Most of the repairs are performed by the Habitat construction manager, intern and volunteers, which keeps the cost of each project low.
The focus of ABWK is to provide minor exterior home repairs that improve safety, provide accessibility and promotes pride in home ownership. Previous ABWK projects have included painting, siding repairs, stair/ramp accessibility, handrail and grab bar installation, door/window replacement, and yard clean up.
Last year alone, the local Habitat organization completed 11 ABWK repairs and overall, 35 total projects have been completed in Carbon and Emery counties. This year, the non-profit group hopes to complete even more.
To qualify, applicants must own (mortgage) their home. Rentals do not qualify. To find out more information about ABWK, please call the Habitat office at (435) 637-9701. Applications may be picked up at the office located at 375 South Carbon Ave. Room 148 in Price.
